Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy

by Derek on Aug.27, 2008, under humor, web

Fan of Seth MacFarlane? How about Family Guy – the once dead, now alive again, FOX prime time cartoon? Known for his less-than-pc cartoons such as the above mentioned Family Guy, and American Dad, he is set to launch Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy on September 10, 2008.

Cavalcade is a high-budgeted cartoon series that’s supposed to be edgier than the network TV offerings MacFarlane has given to us, and is being distributed via Google’s Adsense video for those sites that match that demographic. As a series being distributed via an advertising channel, it will consist of 50, short, 2-minute episodes, with new episodes being distributed every week. A site’s gone up for the show that has a short trailer, at http://www.sethcomedy.com/.

It seems interesting to me that Google would choose to use their AdSense platform as a distribution model for content. But why not? Video ad unit spaces have been used to display commercial-like placements for brands and products so why not use that same space to display something someone will actually want to watch? I’m sure similar things have been done, but none that I can recall that has as much appeal to me. Will this new distribution model become more popular in the future for similar shorts? Only time will tell, but I know that I’ll be watching the site since I’m a fan.
