Just came across this via an email from Costco. Ah the epitome of warehouse shopping, this HAS to be the ultimate item from there – an Emergency Food Supply. Who knew? Wonder how many of these they actually sell….doesn’t seem like a bad deal for $75 – probably tastes like…yeah, let’s not go there. Beijing Olympic Women Gymnasts

So it’s almost been a full week since the kick-off of the Olympic games, and while the opening ceremonies made it quite evident that China is working hard to change their image to the rest of the World, it has not been without controversy. Besides the conflict between Russia and Georgia, and Michael Phelps tremendous accomplishments, the other story that has been playing huge in the American media is the Chinese Olympic gymnastics women. First of all, my congratulations to China on their performance at this years Summer Games. They are doing magnificently. As an Asian-American, I couldn’t be more proud to see China in the spotlight and getting the respect that they’ve wanted all these years. But the controversy over the women gymnasts is just ridiculous. Yes, it has been reported that in some recent records some of the competitors ages were not of competition age – 16, and that the athletes themselves may in fact be younger than that. But with China providing their passports to the investigation of the Olympic committee and the committee finding no faults with their papers, there is really nothing else that can be done. Launching a full on investigation into the backgrounds of athletes through a government that has already provided what they deem to be legitimate documents is, in my opinion, as far as it’s ever going to go – and with that, why all the continual talk about it?!

With the ongoing articles on ESPN and the internet, commentators mentioning of it during every US broadcast of the gymnastics events is just overkill, and is creating a sense of racist regards towards China. Looking at the comments left by users on ESPN.com you will notice that the controversy has made the average American look like sore-losers, and racist sore-losers at that. Not only are they attacking the gymnasts and Chinese government itself, they are using it to flame the country and it’s people as a whole, and makes me even more supportive of the Chinese athletes. Don’t get me wrong, I have no idea if they are, in fact, of age. All I can say is that with the right haircut, and some change in clothes I can easily fit in and pass as a High School student – and I’m 26. I have Asian, female friends that look as they could be 14 and they’re 25. I have a cousin who is in med school that could pass as 13. Asian people don’t necessarily look their age. And being a gymnast, which is a sport that generally stunts growth, doesn’t add to the fact that the girls may very well be as old as they say. Regardless of that fact however, they’re performed admirably, were under the same pressures and won it for their country. When the USA team captain was asked if she thought they looked younger than 16 she gave a very respectable answer, “…I don’t look 20.” yes, you don’t. And for all the naysayers, I seriously doubt the Olympic committee will go further than looking at official documents because there is nothing further to look into! Good luck finding birth records in a country where the number of children a family can have is limited, and many are sold as soon as their born because the parents are not of age to be married, or get a license to have a child. It is what it is, and just appreciate the fact that the US was able to get silver. BTW, the US had the chance to win it, and they lost it. They didn’t lose it unfairly, they lost it in competition.

But these are just some random thoughts from a blogger.

Study finds economic stimulus being spent on PORN

Wow, who would have thought that when people received an extra 600 bucks (or 1200) bucks from the government, they’d spend it on PORN? A study by AIMRCo released today, reveals that the porn industry has been booming during this normally slower period of the year. The correlation to the jump in sales? The dates of the first economic stimulus checks being sent out – all I know is that with gas prices up, the market down, and unemployment on the rise, people should really have higher priorities than porn… besides, isn’t that what the internet is for? FREE pr0n? Amazing.

ghetto dogs

So I was thinking the other day about how I haven’t gone out to a club or bar in a while that wasn’t on the Westside, and in that thinking came about the ideas of how I really don’t mind missing out on the Hollywood/Downtown scene that much, except for one thing…the infamous Los Angeles ghetto-dog. Yes, you know the ones of which I speak – the hot dog wrapped in bacon, covered in grilled onions/peppers and slathered in mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and hot sauce (if so desired). It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to indulge in one of those, but it got me thinking. A while back I was reading about how there was a crackdown on the downtown vendors because of the unsanitary (READ: unsanitary to county health codes) preparation methods, and storage of the meat, and how it was harder to locate these stands, but I recall the last time I went out I was STILL able to find these on every corner. So are people REALLY missing out on these? And how many people actually care about the lack of “proper” refrigeration and cooking?

So, I’ve decided to poll – let’s see what people think. Mmmm… doesn’t that picture just make you want one right now?

robo puppy, wave of the future

I love dogs. I have one, and I’m glad he’s a healthy little guy, but in the case that anything ever happened to him, I have to take up inspiration from this little pup.

That’s right – Hope was born without legs, and is being fitted for some prosthetics! The end result:

So there was an interesting post a while back about SomethingStore.com. Somethingstore.com is this site where you can buy something, pay via Google check-out, and have it delivered to you within a few weeks. The catch is, you have absolutely no idea what you’re getting. In essence, it’s Christmas for yourself any day you’d like. Sounds ridiculous right? Well, actually going to the site and viewing what other people have received is a very interesting experience. You’ll see that there is a wide variety of items that people have bought, some of the things worth far greater than the ten dollars they paid (eg. ipods, video games, gift cards) but other things are worth far less and are things you’d more often see on the shelves of bad gift shops or the clearance sections at wal-mart and target.

Needless to say, I was too curious to let this one go – after all, I am an avid Woot! watcher and have missed every possible opportunity to buy one of their coveted “Bags of Crap” (of which have resulted in Woot!’ers receiving a myriad of expensive electronic equipment, as well as well, pretty much the equivalent of crap), so me and trex both decided to try it and see what came.

A few weeks went by and finally my package arrived. As I opened it in anticipation, and pulled it out of the packaging it had the potential to be a great prize. But like a kid who got coal on Christmas, it was a disappointment. Low and behold, this is what somethingstore.com sent me:

Apologies for the bad resolution, another cell-phone pick, but it’s a 3in1 Charger for an iPod, made by iBoost International (no rip-off of the Apple “i” there huh?). Quick search on ebay and how much was it worth? No more than $5, with an additional $5 shipping, and no bids. So it is worthless! No one wants them, and even the sellers trying to unload for under $2 up the shipping to cover the costs taken by ebay and the payment provider. Oh well, at least it was a surprise and something I guess.

What did trex get? Well, that’s another story altogether, and I’ll leave it up to him to comment or post on that funny incident

That’s right. Will Fox News ever be given the prestige and regard that other news sources are given? Probably not – but it definitely keeps the news more entertaining. While there is some controversy over some of it’s “views”, I think it keeps news more interesting to watch!
